What is the Home Decarbonisation Skills Training Competition?


The Retrofit Academy have been awarded up to £1 million of funding to offer our retrofit training and qualifications in England. The Home Decarbonisation Skills Training Competition offers flexible funded courses, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and launch their career in energy efficiency and retrofit roles.

As long as you live or work for a company who has a registered address in England you will be eligible to apply. This includes unemployed, employed and self-employed individuals. The training is flexible and will involve online guided eLearning, expert-le sessions and assessments, designed to work around your schedule.

Level 2 Award in
Understanding Domestic Retrofit

A comprehensive and easy to follow introduction to whole-house retrofit. Learners will gain an understanding of what domestic retrofit is, what it aims to achieve, what you need to know when working in the industry, and what to look out for when installing energy efficiency measures in homes.

Retrofit

Who’s this for:

Those who are new to the world of domestic retrofit, or those who have some experience of energy efficiency projects already, or for organisation wanting their employees to have an awareness of domestic retrofit principles and practices.

Eligibility:

You must reside or work in England, be over the age of 16 and have access to a computer and reliable internet connection.

Retrofit

Learning:

30 hours: eLearning supported by an expert-led session, followed by an online exam.

Level 3 Award in Energy Efficiency for Older and Traditional Buildings

Older and traditional buildings account for a quarter of UK residential properties. This course equips you will essential knowledge of older, traditional, protected and historical characteristics in homes, to ensure a holistic retrofit approach is taken.

Who’s this for:

This course is built for retrofitters already in the industry looking to upskill and access a further quarter of UK homes by earning this qualification.

Eligibility:

You must reside or work in England, be over the age of 18 and have access to a computer and reliable internet connection.

Learning:

21 hours: eLearning followed by an online exam and professional discussion.

Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Energy Assessment &
Level 4 Award in Domestic Retrofit Assessment

Our dual qualification DEA and RA course will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to survey residential properties, assess the energy efficiency of a home, and prepare quality reports. Learners will be provided with full training and support on how to conduct a detailed energy and retrofit assessment.

Who’s this for:

Ideally, you will have interest or experience in the built-environment, energy efficiency and housing sector, and are looking to make a career change into retrofit.

Eligibility:

You must reside or work in England, be over the age of 18 and have access to a computer and reliable internet connection.

Retrofit

Learning:

6 Week Fast Track program: Blended Learning supported by tutor-led sessions, mentor support and our state of the art E-Learning platform.
This course also includes a mixture of multiple choice questions, assignments and practical property assessments.

Level 4 Award in Domestic Retrofit Assessment

The role of a Retrofit Assessor is to survey properties and prepare a report in-line with a Retrofit Coordinator’s requirements. Learners will be provided with full training and support on how to conduct a detailed retrofit assessment.

Who’s this for:

Existing Domestic Energy Assessor’s wanting to take the next step in their careers, working on retrofit projects and carrying out essential retrofit assessments.

Eligibility:

You must reside or work in England, be over the age of 18 and have access to a computer and reliable internet connection. You must also hold a DEA qualification.

Learning:

10 week Fast Track program: Blended Learning supported by tutor-led sessions, mentor support and our state of the art E-Learning platform

Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination & Risk Management

Retrofit Coordinators manage the PAS 2035 process throughout a project. Crucially, the Retrofit Coordinator ensures compliance with the procurement, specification, and delivery of measures in all domestic retrofit projects.

Who’s this for:

Built environment professionals looking to upskill in retrofit and to gain the qualification necessary manage retrofit projects, ensuring that they are PAS 2035 compliant.

Eligibility:

You must reside or work in England, be over the age of 18 and have access to a computer and reliable internet connection. You must hold a Level 3 qualification in a built-environment subject and have 2 year experience in the housing, construction or energy efficiency industry.

13 week Fast Track program: Blended Learning supported by tutor-led sessions, mentor support and our state of the art E-Learning platform
