NATIONAL EMPLOYERS’ GROUP

Supporting employers in developing PAS 2035 retrofit roles

National Retrofit Employers’ Group (NREG)

The Retrofit Academy works closely with employers across the UK, to provide support in the development of PAS 2035 retrofit roles; developing recruitment plans regionally and ensuring the suitability of candidates and learners to enhance their employment prospects. With such a huge skills gap in the construction and allied industries, the risk of insufficient numbers of skilled, experienced, and competent people, trained in delivering high-quality retrofit is too great to ignore.

Representation Across The UK

The National Retrofit Employers’ Group (NREG) consists of around 30 employers from across the industry, representing all areas of the UK and ranging from medium-sized insulation and renewable energy contractors to large-scale RMI (Repairs , Maintenance, and Improvement) contractors, who are delivering quality retrofit for clients across UK.
  • The Retrofit Academy are an integral and essential part of the retrofitting industry and their network which we are proud to be part of, is helping to improve levels of awareness, behaviours and skills that are currently lacking at the scale required.

The Retrofit Academy Network allows us to leverage significant experience and knowledge that is being brought together within the fast-evolving retrofit space and that brings opportunities to collaborate and innovate that we have not seen on this level before.

Richard Hughes, Energy Director for Mears
  • The Retrofit Academy Network is integral in making sure projects are completed to the highest retrofit standards.

Osborne Carbon Neutral Solutions team is very excited to see the innovative development of new technologies to help ensure residents have affordable, warm, safe and secure homes to raise their families and the knowledge sharing and depth of industry knowledge that is available through the Network is invaluable to understanding best practice for these innovations and new technologies.

Lee Whitby, Account Manager for Osborne
  • We fully support TRA in their work in building a trained retrofit workforce of the future. As a company that delivers multi-million pound contracts for some of the country’s largest and most demanding housing associations and local authorities it is important we can continue to build on our workforce of fully trained and competent people, who understand retrofitting and can work under PAS 2035 and PAS 2030 (2019) to the high quality standards Sustainable Building Services (UK) Ltd are currently delivering on a large scale.

How The Retrofit Academy Works With NREG

Meeting around 3 times a year as a group, The Retrofit Academy works individually with group members throughout the year, to understand their requirements for specific retrofit roles and work with local infrastructure licence-holders and partnership agencies to ensure adequate training is in place to satisfy this demand. Knowing where the future opportunities are, allows The Retrofit Academy to ensure appropriate training is in place where and when it is required. Working closely with the employers’ group enables us to provide appropriate learners who, when qualified, will match employers’ needs, and can take up sustainable employment across the sector, optimise the opportunities for employment for learners on the retrofit roles training courses, and secure sustainable employment across the UK.

Developing Skills And Pathways

With around 200,000 professional retrofit roles to be filled by 2030, it’s vital to establish close working relationships with academy members. In doing so, we’ll work with employers as they impart the skills and training necessary to open career pathways in the retrofit industry, and significantly reduce the risk that carbon reduction targets in the UK housing sector are not achieved.
