Retrofit Academy Awards Shortlist: Retrofit Assessor of the Year
The quality of retrofit assessments is widely seen as a problematic area for a sector trying to industrialise quality. But, judging by the shortlist for Retrofit Assessor of the Year, industrialising good is exactly what some Assessors are doing – quite exceptionally!
Only a handful of marks separated the judge’s scoring for the leading candidates up for Retrofit Assessor of the Year:
Charlotte Lancaster, an Assessor working for Trade Engine displayed a commitment to quality assessment and is clearly a rising star.
Selena Hall owed massive commitment to tackling fuel poverty and climate change, overcoming huge challenges to forge her career as a retrofit professional.
Ryan Spray, a lead assessor for the impressive CC Limited, is mentoring a team of assessors that put their clients at the heart of the service.
Jack Hannon is Head of Operations at As Built Testing and demonstrates all the soft skills and management skills needed to deliver great customer service, as well as a wealth of technical understanding.
Finally, Craig Smith from Taylor Lewis, an experienced chartered building surveyor who supports several local authority and social housing clients.
The entries tell story of how the profession is shaping up. Many are feeding their experiences into process innovation, with a view to improving the quality of the assessment process, and how it feeds into the design and coordination process. They are working closely with coordinators and designers, not simply providing raw data. Most recognise the strengths and weaknesses of using the RdSAP methodology. One has even developed their own Assessment App! The quality of assessment reports submitted in support of their awards entries showed clear progression in this crucial aspect relative to just a year ago.
The question for the assessor fraternity now is: how can we get thousands more assessors to operate at a similar level, really quickly?
