    Designed for experienced housing, construction and design professionals who hold a minimum of 12 credits towards a Level 3 qualification in a related subject.

    Duration and content ​

    Supported online learning via our online learning platform, become a qualified Retrofit Coordinator in around 145 guided learning hours. With up to 12 months of access, you can easily balance your studies alongside work and personal commitments.

    Trustmark Accreditation​

    Upon completing the course, you will become an accredited TrustMark Retrofit Coordinator through The Retrofit Academy at no extra cost.

    Designed for those with previous skills and experience, the Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and Risk Management is the UK’s premier qualification for those wanting to lead domestic retrofit projects and programmes. By completing this course, you will become fully qualified and accredited – ready to address the challenges and grab the opportunities that await.

    The Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and Risk Management is eligible for the CITB short-term qualifications grant, providing up to £600 in funding. This grant can help offset the cost of your education, making it more accessible and affordable.

    After successfully passing your assessments, you will be awarded the Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and Risk Management, accredited by AIM Qualifications. This certification is highly respected within the industry and provides the professional credibility needed to advance your career.

    As a regulated qualification, you must meet the following criteria to enrol on the Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and Risk Management:

    • Hold 12 Level 3 credits in a built environment subject
    • Display built environment professional competencies as defined by PAS 2035
    • Have a minimum of two years’ experience working on retrofit or energy efficiency projects

    This ensures all participants are equipped with the foundational knowledge and experience necessary to succeed in the program.

    Our courses are designed to ensure you master the essential skills through various assessments to suit all learning types:

    • Portfolio of evidence
    • Multiple-choice tests at the end of each module
    • Short written assignments relating to the key learning objectives
    • A verbal presentation relating to the case study

    You will receive guidance and feedback from experienced assessors, all of whom are graduates of the Level 5 Diploma and hand-picked for their industry expertise.

    On successful graduation of the Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and Risk Management, learners enrolled from the 1st July 2024 will be awarded TrustMark Accreditation for the role of Retrofit Coordinator through the new Retrofit Academy Accreditation Scheme.

             

    Upon graduation, you will become recognised as a Retrofit Academy Professional Member at the appropriate level, often at Associate Level in your early years of practice. You can progress through Practitioner levels to ultimately apply for Retrofit Academy Fellowship.

    Becoming a Certified Retrofit Coordinator also opens the door to a range of services designed to support your career and professional development provided by The Retrofit Academy. The first 12 months are FREE post graduation. The ongoing membership fee is £195 plus VAT per year.

    After you have completed the certified retrofit coordinator course, you will gain access to the Retrofit Academy Hub, providing:

    Clive Rowland - Lead Tutor

    Clive has over 15 years’ experience in the retrofit industry, including energy assessments of existing and new build dwellings, thermal imaging, air pressure testing, building forensics, post occupancy evaluation and building performance monitoring. He co-wrote and delivered the training for one of the modules for the PAS 2035 Retrofit Co-ordinator qualification and was part of the advisory panel for the Green Deal Advisor National Occupational Standards.

    Dominic Ives - Retrofit Skills Coach

    Dominic is a qualified Retrofit Coordinator with experience working on SHDF Wave 1 projects in the Southwest. He has worked as a natural builder using cob as well as conventional construction and renovation. His further experience and study have focused on practical sustainability, arboriculture, and horticulture. Dominic is also studying part-time for an MSc in Green Buildings and has a keen interest in ultra-low-energy buildings, natural materials, and domestic energy.

    Dr. Peter Rickaby - Course Author

    Peter brings over 30 years of experience as an energy and sustainability consultant in the building and housing industries. As Director of Rickaby Thompson Associates Ltd, he has contributed extensively to the field through technical publications, energy-efficient design guidance, and low-carbon retrofit consultancy.

    In addition to his role as course author, Peter serves as a Director of the Centre of Refurbishment Excellence (CoRE) and as a Trustee of the National Energy Foundation, reinforcing his commitment to advancing best practices in energy efficiency and sustainable building.

    Martin Callachan - Lead Assessor and Mentor

    Sustainability Consultant & Building Surveyor

    Martin is a qualified Building Surveyor specialising in retrofit under PAS2035. With over a decade of experience in the housing sector, Martin has held roles in tenancy management, property maintenance, and estates management, now focusing on sustainability and retrofit.

    He has conducted thousands of Retrofit Assessments and currently works as a Retrofit Coordinator and Project Lead on large-scale, whole-house retrofit projects across the UK.

    Martin combines practical expertise with a passion for educating professionals in the field of retrofit and sustainability.
