Alan has been working on energy and environmental assessment throughout the UK since the 1980s and since 1998, he has been working as an independent consultant and trainer based in South Shropshire.
Over the years, he has provided a wide range of services to local authorities, housing associations and commercial organisations. These services include energy assessor training and bespoke training courses, feasibility studies and business plans for energy efficiency projects, energy surveys and option appraisals, housing stock energy consultancy and the design of marketing materials to promote energy efficiency.
Alan has an in-depth knowledge of small and large scale domestic low carbon retrofit and a thorough understanding of the Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) and the modelling of energy efficiency improvements using this, both at the individual dwelling and housing stock levels. He is a currently member of the BSi Panel that is developing the new BS 40104 Code of Practice for Retrofit Assessment of Dwellings.
Alan has an outstanding reputation as a trainer, and he was part of the team that developed the training course for the Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Co-ordination and Risk Management. He delivers Retrofit Coordinator training for The Retrofit Academy and he is currently updating the on-line training materials for this course.
