WHAT IS A RETROFIT ASSESSOR?

Retrofit Assessors visit properties and carry out full property surveys. These surveys and their outputs are necessary to inform the decisions made by the Retrofit Coordinator or Retrofit Designer, about which energy efficiency measures should be installed in the property.

Picture yourself as the go-to expert for energy optimisation in residential properties. Through our comprehensive training, you’ll learn everything from building systems and requirements to conducting thorough assessments that pinpoint areas for energy-saving improvements in line with the PAS 2035 standard, and we’ll support you every step of the way.

From cosy cottages to modern townhouses, your skills will be in high demand. But it’s not just about the paycheck; it’s about making a real difference. By assisting homeowners in reducing their carbon footprint and cutting energy costs, you’ll play a crucial role in the fight against climate change.

WHAT DOES A RETROFIT ASSESSOR DO?

The role involves:

  • Providing information about the home used by the Retrofit Designer
  • Carrying out an appraisal of the dwelling’s heritage and architectural features
  • Determining the construction and condition of the home, including the building services such as heating, hot water, ventilation and lighting
  • Identifying constraints on the building that may prevent any energy efficiency measures (EEMs) being installed
  • Identifying any defects and structural issues, including damp and mould
  • Identifying any EEMs already installed
  • Carrying out a measured survey of the building and providing a report

WHO SHOULD BECOME A RETROFIT ASSESSOR?

Retrofit Assessor is a role for those with good judgement and a sound technical understanding of whole-house retrofit. It’s a senior role with responsibility and this is often reflected in the amount you’re paid.

You will be able to identify where improvements are needed, the appropriate solution given the property’s age and condition, and feel comfortable with several different line reports relying on you for the next steps.

You’ll also need to be capable of writing clear and actionable reports based on the retrofit coordinator’s requirements. This will include a full EPC, ventilation and occupancy assessment, and a condition survey.
