The Retrofit Academy 2023 Award Winners Announced at Futurebuild!

Celebrating excellence in retrofit, David Pierpoint, CEO of The Retrofit Academy (TRA) along with category sponsors AIM and EON revealed the winners of the 2023 Retrofit Awards at Futurebuild, one of the biggest events of the year for professionals working in the built environment.

The highly acclaimed Retrofit Academy Awards recognise and endorse those striving for excellence in the race to the top and meeting PAS 2035 principles. The awards showcase those that are passionate and consistently deliver high quality resident engagement, provide innovative and high-quality whole house retrofit projects plus highlights the variety of career pathways within the retrofit sector.

David commented, “The breadth and depth of entries received this year was outstanding across all categories. In the individual categories for Coordinator, Assessor and Designer of the Year, the judges were genuinely evaluating excellence in terms of both professionalism and practice. Their work screamed scale as well as quality, with so much commitment to the spirit of PAS.” 

The winners and those that received a highly commended award in the above categories are:

Retrofit Coordinator of the Year

Winner – Jessica Scott-Henker (Home Group)

Highly Commended – Glen Roberts (EQUANS) and Ashley Crawford (CC Ltd)

The judges commented on how “Jessica has gone above and beyond compliance on large-scale social housing programmes’.

Retrofit Assessor of the Year

Winner – Jack Hannon – Head of Operation at As Built Testing

Highly Commended – Craig Smith (Taylor Lewis)

The judges were impressed on how “Jack demonstrated all the soft and management skills required to deliver great customer service, as well as showing a wealth of technical understanding”.  

Retrofit Contractor of the Year

Winner – Sustainable Building Services (UK) Ltd

Highly Commended – Wates

The judges commented on the comprehensive submission from the Sustainable Building Services (UK) Ltd, “Submission included statistics regarding the scale/scope of work undertaken and huge amount of supporting information”

Retrofit Designer of the Year

Winner – Nick Wilde (Constructive Thinking Studio)

The judges commented: “This sets the bar for retrofit design at a large scale!”

Retrofit Assessment and Coordination Service

Winner – Centre for Sustainable Energy

Highly Commented – EQUANS

Retrofit Academy Graduate Award

Winner – Sofia Gentile (Innergio LTD)

The judging panel was in awe of the hard work Sofia put into her work as a graduate, and the passion she brings into the industry.

The Local Authority or Social Housing Award was truly outstanding – their journey in retrofit has been a short one, but they’re learning fast. The winner of this category was announced as:

Best Local Authority or Social Housing Retrofit Programme

Winner – Clarion Housing

Highly Commended – Stroud District Council & Leeds City Council

Clarion impressed the judges with “Very thorough approach to resident engagement pre and post installation.”

The ‘Employer of the Year’ category showed how great companies are having to compete to secure the best talent. It reflects that most people involved in submitting these entries are driven by the outcomes, not just the profits. 

Best Retrofit Employer Award

Winner – EQUANS

Highly Commended – As Built Testing

The judges were impressed with how “quality was hard wired into culture” at EQUANS and the comprehensive detail supplied in their submission.
