WHAT IS A RETROFIT DESIGNER?

The preparation of a precise and bespoke retrofit design for domestic properties is paramount. Outlined in the PAS 2035 process, the expertise of a qualified Retrofit Designer is key, as they craft comprehensive documentation tailored to each dwelling, specifying the materials, products, and systems essential for installing energy efficiency measures effectively. From insulation to heating systems, their designs lay the foundation for a greener, more sustainable home.

In some cases, multiple individuals may collaborate on the design, particularly when proposing various measures. Certain improvement measures demand specialist knowledge or qualifications, and for systems, it’s often advisable for suppliers or installers to contribute to the design process.

As a Retrofit Designer, you’ll:

  • Lead the Design: Coordinate information from various designers, ensuring seamless integration of all proposed measures.
  • Take Ownership: Assume responsibility for the overall design, especially for measures not designed by specialists.
  • Ensure Accountability: Oversee that specialist designers take responsibility for their designs, maintaining quality and efficacy throughout the process.

Ready to take the lead in shaping energy-efficient homes? Enroll in our Retrofit Designer course and become an integral part of creating sustainable living spaces.

WHO SHOULD BECOME A RETROFIT DESIGNER?

Chartered Architects, Architectural Technologists and Technicians (ARB, MCIAT, FCIAT, CIAT), Chartered Building Surveyors (MRICS, FRICS) or Professional Members of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB, FCIOB) are eligible and encouraged to take the course.
